Global Legal ConfEx 2016- An Effort towards Understanding the New Avenues of the Indian Legal Framework

The swearing in of Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has brought about a one-of-its-kind revolution in India, all thanks to the ‘Make in India’ campaign initiated by him. The nation, today seems to be on an unparalleled path to glaring success. And, as for any other segment of the economy, this new-found development is also enveloping the legal sector. This is of course due to the overwhelming influx of investment from the international arena towards the sector.
It is believed that this development will commence the implementation of progressive reforms, thus making the understanding of Litigation, Risk and Compliance, Intellectual Property, Disputes, and Legal Outsourcing quintessential for the LPO vendors both from within the nation and those from the outside. It is with the aim to enlighten all individuals in this regard, that the Global Legal ConfEx was organized in the capital city of India, Delhi!
The event layout ensured that participants and delegates hailing from various parts of the globe get a decent opportunity to learn from the experiences and know-how of the wide array of speakers who were willing to dissipate the same in the form of speeches, panel discussions, case study presentation as well as a strategic round table discussion.
It was the Keynote Speech that helped kick-start the event in a magnificent manner, with Ms. Gladys Daniel, the Attorney from Daniel and Gladys Advocates taking the dais. An eminent personality known for giving a new thrust and dimension to the field of IP law in India, she took this opportunity to express her views on the ‘Recent Developments in Intellectual Property in India’. The second speaker, Mr. Michael Harrington, from the Mintz Group, Hong Kong is highly renowned for handling hundreds of cases ranging from FCPA/anti-corruption, due diligence to internal investigations. He enthralled the audience with his profound understanding of the subject of ‘Intelligent Due Diligence: Boots on the Ground’.
Next to grace the occasion, Dr. Surat Singh, Advocate, Supreme Court & Chairman and Center for Law and Good Governance played an eminent role. He emphasized on the vitality of improvement of the quality of laws and governance in India. The role of the moderator for the keynote was assigned to Ms. Pavani Reddy, Managing Partner Zaiwalla & Co., UK who specializes in large complex and high volume commercial disputes and International sanctions, who played it with great efficiency. The keynote concluded with a detailed purview of White Collar Crime, presented by none other than Mr. Shashank Karnad, Partner and COO – Forensic Services, KPMG, India. With a commendable experience in the fields of dispute advisory services, fraud risk management, fraud investigations, along with internal audit and corporate governance, his tête-à-tête with the audience was more than fulfilling.
Held in the first trimester of the year 2016, on 20th of April, this Legal ConfEx witnessed around 250 participants, over 100 in-house lawyers and speakers in excess of 50. The flow of the event was planned in a way that gave ample time and opportunity to various participants, exhibitors and speakers attending the conference to have formal as well as informal interactions with each other.
